About

Tony Lee was my stage name; my name is actually Tony Dyball. I was originally one of the members of The Brother Lees, a comedy and singing act formed in the early 60’s and later to be stars of TV in the 70’s and right up to the 90’s on such shows as The Generation Game, The Cilla Black Show, Seaside Specials and many more.

I started applying paint to canvas when The Brother Lees retired and disbanded (in 2000).
An artist on stage to an artist on canvas, not quite so lucrative but not so much pressure!

I have always worked with acrylic paints; I found oils to be too messy and water colours too incipient, although I love water colour paintings by other artists. I have found that experimentation and hard work will pay dividends, but both in moderation, any artist will tell you over-working a painting is quite a common occurrence. Types of paint and the make of brushes can also make a vast difference to your painting technique and the finished painting.

I find scenic land and seascapes best for me but I am experimenting with portrait painting – and painting people’s pets.

I am frequently asked why I leave the sold paintings on display. Often, visitors to my website see some of the sold paintings and ask If they can commission a similar painting for them.
